Program Overview:
Welcomes to the Adventures for Wee Ones Play Group. Join us for an engaging session of “Storytelling & Puppet Play,” designed to captivate young minds and foster essential developmental skills. This program invites children into a world of imagination, where they participate in interactive stories that bring characters to life through the use of puppetry. As children listen, respond, and interact with the narrative, they enhance their language development and social interaction skills in a playful and supportive environment.
Through the use of puppets, children can express emotions, explore social roles, and develop a deeper understanding of the stories being told. This form of play is not only entertaining but also crucial in helping children build the cognitive and emotional skills they need as they grow.
Our Approach:
At Jess Jones Recreation Therapy, our Wee Adventures Playgroups are shaped by the belief that children are inherently competent individuals who possess the ability to explore, learn, and do things for themselves. Drawing from the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we harness each child’s natural curiosity and wonder to create a learning environment where they can confidently lead their own discovery process. Our approach recognizes that both children and their families are capable and resourceful, able to achieve incredible things through exploration and interaction with the world around them. By combining elements of the Reggio Emilia approach with our strengths-based, biopsychosocial framework, we ensure that each child’s experience in our playgroups is empowering, nurturing their growth and fostering a deep connection to learning.
Intended Audience:
This program is designed for babies and toddlers, from newborn to 5 years old, along with their parents or caregivers. It’s ideal for those looking to foster early language development, social interaction, and emotional expression through creative and interactive play.

A study by Smith, J., & Davis, R. (2019). The Impact of Interactive Storytelling on Early Language Development. Journal of Child Language Development, 46(3), 342-360. emphasizes the importance of interactive storytelling in early childhood education. The research highlights that children who regularly engage in storytelling sessions exhibit significant improvements in vocabulary, sentence structure, and conversational skills. Moreover, the study found that storytelling enhances children’s ability to understand and express complex emotions, which is critical for social development.
The Reggio Emilia approach, an influential philosophy in early childhood education, emphasizes the importance of child-led exploration and learning through hands-on experiences. According to Edwards, C., Gandini, L., & Forman, G. (2016). The Hundred Languages of Children: The Reggio Emilia Approach in Transformation. Praeger Publishers, this method fosters creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills by encouraging children to engage with their environment and express themselves through various forms of communication, such as art, storytelling, and nature exploration. Studies show that children exposed to the Reggio Emilia approach often develop stronger social and cognitive skills, as well as a deeper sense of curiosity and a love for learning.
Outcomes:
Participants of the “Storytelling & Puppet Play” program can expect the following social and recreation therapy-based outcomes:
Enhanced Language Development: Through active participation in storytelling, children will expand their vocabulary and improve their ability to construct sentences and communicate effectively.
Improved Social Interaction: The interactive nature of the program encourages children to engage with their peers, promoting the development of social skills such as taking turns, sharing, and cooperation.
Increased Emotional Expression: By using puppets to act out various scenarios, children will learn to express their emotions more openly and understand the feelings of others.
Boosted Confidence: The supportive environment of the program allows children to take on different roles and explore their creativity, leading to increased self-confidence.
Cognitive Development: Storytelling and puppet play stimulate children’s imagination and problem-solving abilities, fostering cognitive growth and creativity.

This program is designed for babies and toddlers, from newborn to 5 years old, along with their parents or caregivers. It’s perfect for those who want to introduce their little ones to the joy of music and rhythm while supporting the development of motor skills and auditory processing.
Program Overview:
Welcome to Adventures for Wee Ones Playgroup! Join us for “Music and Rhythm Exploration,” where you and your child can enjoy introducing simple musical instruments and rhythmic movement. This session is designed to spark a love for music while also enhancing your child’s motor skills and auditory processing abilities.
Throughout the class, children will explore a variety of instruments like shakers, drums, and bells, and participate in rhythmic movement activities. These experiences not only make learning fun but also lay the groundwork for important developmental milestones.

A study by Williams, A., & Chen, R. (2021). The Role of Music and Rhythm in Early Childhood Development. Journal of Music Therapy, 58(3), 245-262. underscores the importance of music and rhythm in early childhood. The research highlights how exposure to rhythmic patterns and musical instruments can significantly improve motor coordination, auditory processing, and even early language skills.
The Reggio Emilia approach, an influential philosophy in early childhood education, emphasizes the importance of child-led exploration and learning through hands-on experiences. Studies show that children exposed to the Reggio Emilia approach often develop stronger social and cognitive skills, as well as a deeper sense of curiosity and a love for learning.
Outcomes:

Enhanced Motor Skills: Engaging with musical instruments and rhythmic movements helps to develop fine and gross motor skills, improving coordination and control.
